Gloria Chapmon Walk-A-Thon –

The Walk-A-Thon was implemented in 2010 by Soror Rev. Dr. Jean Dade-Batchie, National Past President 2006-2010, of Iota Chapter, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Southeastern Region.  The Walkathon was implemented to raise awareness and advocate for the intellectually and developmentally disabled, with proceeds from the initial event distributed to local and national IDD organizations of Arc. (Cited: Eta Phi Beta History Addendum 1996-2012)

The Educational and Charitable Foundation of Eta Phi Beta Sorority has returned over $128,000 between 2010 and 2025 to IDD agencies in support of awareness and advocacy.

The members of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, participate in a biennial walk-a-thon named after Past President Gloria Chapmon, who was an avid supporter of providing support to organizations that assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities all over the United States.  During the interim years, local chapters host Gloria Chapmon Walk-A-Thons in their respective communities.  Funds raised from the local walk-a-thons are distributed to local agencies in the chapter’s community.

Join Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, for the Gloria Chapmon Walk-A-Thon, a dynamic bi-annual event dedicated to making a difference in the lives of individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). As the flagship initiative of our Sorority, this inspiring walk not only brings our community together but also serves as a vital fundraising opportunity for community-based organizations that advocate for and support individuals with IDD and their families.

The Gloria Chapmon Walk-A-Thon is more than just an event—it’s a movement. By participating, you help create lasting change and empower those who need it most. Together, let’s walk towards a brighter future for individuals with IDD! Join us in this meaningful journey and be a part of something truly impactful.
